Mr. Hocker is the founder and CEO of The Hocker Group, LLC, of Louisville, Kentucky, a vertically integrated real estate platform that invests in well-located commercial real estate assets found in secondary markets throughout the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic States. Mr. Hocker has been involved in commercial development and property management since joining his father’s company, David Hocker and Associates, Inc. of Owensboro, KY, in 1984. For the next 20 years, Mr. Hocker developed, acquired, leased and managed more than 50 properties in 14 states consisting of over 15 million square feet with an asset value in excess of $1 billion dollars. In 2004, Mr. Hocker founded The Hocker Group and has since purchased, repositioned and sold over $300 million in real estate assets.
Mr. Hocker is a former State Director for the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC), the leading trade association for his industry, and currently serves as ICSC Kentucky State Governmental Affairs Chairman. Mr. Hocker is an active member of the Young Presidents Organization a group dedicated to furthering entrepreneurship and community service, serves on US Bank’s Regional Board of Advisors and the Board of Trustees of his alma mater, Kentucky Wesleyan College. Passionate about the history and culture of his Kentucky community, he serves on a local preservation society board, the Mockingbird Valley Preservation Alliance. As an avid hunter and conservationist, Mr. Hocker enjoys surveying the natural beauty of the outdoors through domestic and international travel. On July 24, 2018, President Donald J. Trump announced his intent to appoint Mr. Hocker as a Member of the Public Buildings Reform Board, a bi-partisan statute signed into Public Law by President Barack Obama, for a term of six years. The boards mandate is to help monetize underproductive real assets currently owned by the federal government.
Mr. Hocker attended the University of Kentucky and was a member of the University of Kentucky Wildcats football team his freshman year. Mr. Hocker then transferred to Kentucky Wesleyan College in Owensboro, Kentucky and began his work in the family real estate business. Mr. Hocker and his wife Rosemary have two grown children and two granddaughters.
A native of Michigan, Jennifer has after 20 years in the Bluegrass State decided to call Kentucky home. Prior to joining The Hocker Group in 2010, Jennifer spent seven years as the office manager of a fast paced tree, mulch and landscape company, joined Colleen Liebert in her bookkeeping business venture, as well as being the sole employee in a startup doctor’s practice. Along the way Jennifer has gained extensive experience in all facets of running a small business, gained abundant knowledge of bookkeeping and property management. Due to her solid “can do” attitude Jennifer continues to contribute her valuable experience in property management and accounting within the retail shopping center industry.
After graduating from the University of Kentucky in 2010, Mr. Hocker moved to Washington DC and spent three years working for Senator McConnell in the US Senate. Mr. Hocker then joined his father at The Hocker Group in 2013, where he focuses primarily on deal sourcing, finance and investment activities across multiple asset classes. Talmage holds his Real Estate License in the State of Kentucky and is a member of the International Council of Shopping Centers.
Brittney Thompson, MBA, joined The Hocker Group in June of 2014 and provides accounting and financial reporting. Prior to joining The Hocker Group, Mrs. Thompson worked in financial reporting for nearly 5 years with Humana and Hilliard Lyons, respectively. Mrs. Thompson earned her MBA from Bellarmine University, as well as a Bachelors degree in Finance and a Minor in International Business from the University of Kentucky.
